Heroic Defenders of Wildlife

Gulf Oil Spill Recovery Map

Defenders of Wildlife, an organization dedicated to protecting species and the habitats on which they depend, has created a Google Map to display the projects, from beach cleanups to air monitoring surveys, in the area affected by the Gulf oil spill.

The map records all the projects going on in the region to help rescue and restore affected species and their habitats. Anyone can add their story or project to the map. Whether you are part of a non-profit group or just a concerned citizen you can add your story, photos or videos.

The map also displays the government's actions to try and mitigate the impacts of the spill. As the map evolves it will hopefully show how the marine environment and coastlines recuperate from the collaborative efforts of individuals, non-profit organizations and government agencies.
