Tracking Your Rides with Google Maps

Strava is a free app for Android and iPhones that can be used to track your bike rides or runs.

Using the Strava application you can track all your runs and rides and Strava will automatically log your progress. When you complete your run or ride you can then view the track on a Google Map. Strava can also show you how far you travelled, the time you took and estimate the number of calories you burned.

You can also use Strava to compare your effort against past efforts, as well as other athletes who’ve run or ridden the same segment. Strava includes some nice social sharing features which also allow users to follow friends and their activities, join clubs and create new ones.

The free Strava is so great that I bought a Garmin Edge 500 just to get longer battery life! (the iPhone app drains the battery from 100% to zero in 4 hrs - and how many times do you head out with your phone only half-charged?)
